Senior Piping Designer/Checker (HGA-BR)

Position Summary & Duties:
The Sr. Piping Designer/Checker position is a direct hire position working for HGA in our Baton Rouge office.

The Sr. Piping Designer/ Checker candidate performs and reviews analysis and design activities in completing complex and unique engineering design projects from general drawings and instructions. Position requires extensive knowledge of engineering design principles and practices. Assumes responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs. Capable of engineering assignments from education and experience background but does not have a degree in engineering. Works with minimal supervision from a Lead Engineer.

Sr. Piping Designer/Checker Duties and Responsibilities:
• Interprets and analyzes general design provided by engineers.
• Prepares detailed design and analysis for engineer’s approval.
• Acting under minimal supervision, prepares produces construction drawing packages by providing detailed designs using company standards and drafting techniques.
• Assumes responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs.
• Communicates and works closely with all disciplines.
• Works with vendor drawings.
• Develops layouts from job scope and vendor information.
• Checks other designers’ drawings.
• The Sr. Piping Designer/Checker checks and reviews shop drawings from equipment suppliers.
• Develops man hour estimates for new work using scope of work and drawings.
• Develops material take-offs for FEL TIC Estimates.
• Performs in a Lead Designer role on projects.
• Capable of supervising other designers and drafters.

Sr. Piping Designer/Checker Education and/or Experience:
• Experience as a Senior Mechanical / Piping Designer with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in drafting/design in the Petro-Chemical industry is required
• Utilizes AutoCAD 3D Software
• CADWorx and Isogen experience preferred
• Technology training in Drafting and design from an accredited school. Associate degree preferred
• Proficient in use of MS Windows, MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word
• Experience with a consulting engineering firm preferred
• Familiar with industry codes and standards, piping material specs and basic piping process and equipment
• Experience acting as a lead designer on large and midsized projects
• Experience creating and interpreting P&ID’s
• Experience designing and detailing pipe support systems
• Familiarity with pipe stress terms and principles
• Prefer candidates local to the Baton Rouge area

• Capability to conduct research into project-related issues and products
• Capability and willingness to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
• Ability to utilize and contribute to company design standards, and integrate client standards when necessary
• Ability to check equipment models
