Project Engineer (HGA-BR)

Position Summary & Duties:
The Project Engineer position is a direct-hire entry-level position working for HGA in our office in Baton Rouge, LA.

The Project Engineer performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations under the supervision of a Project Manager. Project Engineer provides technical management assistance on projects within HGA’s Engineering Business Unit. Project Engineer may assist in budgeting, manpowering, scheduling, and forecasting projects as directed by Project Manager. Project Engineer may be assigned small projects to manage with minimum supervision of a Sr. Project Manager.

• Participate in the planning and implementation of projects.
• Project Engineer will assist in defining project scopes, goals and deliverables.
• Assist in defining project tasks and resource requirements.
• Assist in the development of full-scale project plans.
• Assist in planning and scheduling project timelines.
• Assemble and coordinate project staff for specific tasks.
• Project Engineer will manage small project or task budgets.
• Manage project resource allocation for assigned tasks.
• Monitor and report on progress of assigned projects and tasks.
• Track project deliverables using appropriate tools and report to Project Manager.
• Ensure project is operating within quality assurance guidelines.
• Present reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions.
• Project Engineer will assist in implementing and managing project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs.
• Provide limited direction and support to project team.
• Oversee project set-ups.
• Project Engineer will develop proposals under the supervision of a Project Manager.
• Occasionally fill-in for Project Manager in internal and external meetings and record all appropriate meeting notes and action items.
• Communicate with internal and external team members to ensure both sides are aligned in project goals and expectations.
• Coordinate with external clients, subcontractors, and/or material/equipment vendors on a regular basis to fit the project’s needs.
• Manage Project Change and develop Project Change Notice estimates for client’s approval.
• Coordinate with the internal team on current and upcoming tasks to ensure schedule and budget are maintained.
• Work with a project scheduler to ensure schedules are maintained on a regular basis and provided to all project stake holders.
• Project Engineer will receive, process, and distribute vendor drawings to appropriate team member and ensure timely return to the vendor.

o Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college.
o Zero to two plus years of full-time or internship Associate Project Manager related experience in the field of engineering.
o In-plant experience as Associate Project Manager and/or Construction Management preferred.
o Experience in budgeting, scheduling, tracking, monitoring, and project reporting a plus.
o Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
o Familiarity with project management practices, methods, and techniques.
o Proficient in use of MS Windows, MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word.

• Ability to react promptly and efficiently to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to elicit cooperation from a variety of sources including team members, subcontractors, and other departments.
• Ability to bring projects and tasks to successful completion through political sensitivity.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and presentation skills.
• Customer service skills an asset.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Ability to delegate and manage time and resources efficiently.
• Capability to conduct research into project-related issues and products.
• Capability and willingness to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
• Candidates should be from the Baton Rouge area or within reasonable daily commute.
