Electrical Engineer - Design (HGA-BR)

Position Summary & Duties:
The Electrical Engineer position is a direct-hire position working for HGA at our office in Baton Rouge, LA.  The Electrical Engineer is responsible for developing, scheduling, assigning resources/work hour plans, budgeting and directing capital projects.


  • Electrical Engineer performs and reviews the analysis and design activities in completing complex engineering design projects from general drawings and instructions.
  • Directs other engineers, designers, and drafters in the production of construction drawing packages providing detailed electrical designs for single line diagrams, power plans, power studies, lighting plans, grounding, junction box layouts and wiring diagrams, conduit and cable schedules, panel schedules, and installation details using company standards and drafting techniques.
  • Electrical Engineer assumes responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs.
  • Serves as lead engineer on projects.
  • Electrical Engineer performs thorough checking of electrical design packages.
  • Mentor and help grow the department in experience and resources.
  • Electrical Engineer may be involved in the interviewing and hiring process of potential candidates based on resource needs.



  • Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited university/college in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer.
  • Experience as a lead electrical design engineer.
  • Experience with a consulting engineering firm and completion of industrial projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering practices, design details, international codes and standards, procedures, and specifications, including the National Electrical Code and other applicable ANSI standards
  • Electrical systems design experience with the following software is preferred:
  • Visual Lighting Design Software
  • Allen-Bradley CenterONE Motor Control Center Design Software
  • Trace Cal Pro Heat Trace Software
  • ETAP Power Analysis
  • SKM
  • EasyPower


  • Professional Engineering registration is strongly preferred.


  • A high degree of capability in engineering management, communications, client relationship, and team management.
  • Ability to react promptly and efficiently to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a variety of sources including team members, subcontractors, and other departments.
  • Ability to bring projects and tasks to successful completion through political sensitivity.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and presentation skills.
  • Customer service skills an asset.
  • Ability to delegate and manage time and resources efficiently.
