Senior Engineering Associate (HGAS)

Position Summary & Duties:

The Senior Engineering Associate position is a direct-hire position with an oil & gas client located in the Buffalo, NY area.  This is a senior technical position in the Research Group reporting directly to the Director of R&D.

Senior Engineering Associate Job Description:

  • Interfaces with plant process engineers, applying sound chemical engineering principles in the identification and development of suitable improvement projects.
  • Interfaces with Sales & Marketing colleagues and customers to define product testing and application requirements.
  • Independently researches, plans, and executes laboratory, pilot, and commercial scale experiments in the development of new products, testing, and technology.
  • Analyzes experimental data using statistical techniques, summarize results in technical reports, and present findings to technical colleagues and management.
  • Documents experiments and results in a laboratory notebook, develops experimental procedures, and uses LIM systems.
  • Remains current with latest technology trends, conducts literature and patent searches, and writes research proposals. 


Senior Engineering Associate Job Requirements:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering minimum; MS degree preferred.
  • At least ten years work experience in a petroleum R&D environment or refinery process engineering, including project management, leadership of research teams, and the ability to mentor and develop younger technical colleagues.
  • Strong knowledge of refinery products, testing, markets, and operations.
  • Comfortable in both lab and manufacturing environments.
  • Understands plant systems, equipment, and process control schemes.
  • Understands scale-up principles and the design and construction of lab and pilot plant facilities.
  • Experienced track record of collaborating with colleagues in academia and other external technical organizations.
  • Understands the patent process, and possesses at least one patent or published article in a technical journal.
  • Technical expert in at least one area of petroleum technology.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and quality management procedures such as ISO:9001.
  • Familiar with HAZOP procedures and process safety management.
  • High degree of creativity with outstanding problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to turn concepts into tangible products and technology.
