Piping Designer (HGAS)

Position Summary & Duties:

The Piping Designer position is a 6-month contract position working for an oil & gas client in the Salt Lake City, UT area.  Only candidates from the Salt Lake area will be considered as per diem will not be paid. 

The main function of the Piping Designer is assisting Engineering and Operations in complying with the Facility Data Management Programs primarily with large new building projects.  Reimbursable travel of about 25% is required.   

Piping Designer Responsibilities:
• The Piping Designer supports the Designer and will assist in the overall engineering design effort of Operational Excellence and Engineering & Construction Projects, when necessary, by developing and/or compiling the required design and construction information from various sources including; site studies, vendor drawings, catalog data, engineering sketches, reference drawings and input from other disciplines.

• Performs facility as-built walk-downs to develop, update and maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), Facility Plot Plans, Electrical Hazardous Area Classification Plans, Electrical One Line diagrams, Emergency Operating Procedure drawings, Cause and Effect Matrix and other drawings that may be required.

• The Piping Designer provides technical support, designs, and drawings for complex engineering projects.

• Plans and conducts work requiring independent evaluation, also assumes responsibility for contribution to the success of a project.

• The Piping Designer creates designs for pipeline and related facilities based on scope requirements provided by internal business partners. Prepares working plans and detail drawings and maps according to standards and specifications.

• Communicates with internal and external business partners to determine needs and satisfaction.

• The Piping Designer reviews and verifies that plans, designs, drawings, and maps conform to applicable codes, standards, specifications and the requirements of internal business partners.

• Develops and maintains facility drawings for Plants, Stations, and above ground appurtenances in support Operations & Maintenance (O&M), Tactical, and as necessary Engineering & Construction (E&C) projects ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations. 

The Piping Designer ensures accurate, timely, and efficient design and delivery of drawings from conception to as-built state and continued maintenance and updates afterwards. These drawings and documents include Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), Facility Plot Plans, Electrical Hazardous Area Classification Plans, Electrical One Line diagrams, Schematics, Emergency Operating Procedure drawings, Cause and Effect Matrixes, Relief System Design data, and other drawings that may be required 

Qualifications:

Piping Designer Education/Experience:

• Candidates must be from the Salt Lake City, UT area since per diem will not be paid

• Associate of Applied Science degree in Design and Drafting Technology or equivalent experience work experience

• Broad level of knowledge concerning industry codes, standards and practices such as ASME, API, ANSI, DOT, ISA, NEC, ACCI, AISC, UBC, ASCE, NFPA, AWS, NACE, IBC, etc.

• 8-10 years of drafting experience.

• 6+ years of piping design experience with CADWorx and AutoCAD desired.

• Prior experience with large facilities design projects necessary.

• Minimum of 6 years piping experience in gas and oil industry design and drafting including knowledge of P&IDs preferred.

• Experience with Adobe imaging software (i.e., Illustrator, Photoshop), computer aided design (CAD) software and graphics software
