Senior E&I Engineer (HGA-BR)

Position Summary & Duties:

The Senior E&I Engineer position is a direct-hire position working for HGA in our Baton Rouge office.  

SENIOR E&I ENGINEER POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior E&I Engineer is responsible for scheduling, assigning, and directing projects within the Electrical & Instrumentation Department, determining the scope of work, job objectives, and man-hour budgets on projects assigned to the group in concurrence with the Department Manager. 

SENIOR E&I ENGINEER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform and review the analysis and design activities in completing complex engineering design projects from general drawings and instructions
  • Senior E&I Engineer directs other engineers, designers, and drafters in the production of construction drawing packages per industry and client standards.
  • Provide detailed electrical calculations for power studies and arc flash analysis.
  • Senior E&I Engineer develops electrical specifications and requirements for vendor supplied equipment
  • Developing specifications for control systems including, DCS, PLC, and Safety Instrumented Systems.
  • Develop and review P&ID drawings.
  • Senior E&I Engineer directs the application of industrial process instrumentation, including selection, sizing, and specifications.
  • Interface with automation personnel for system configuration.
  • Assume responsibility for technical accuracy and constructability of finished E&I designs
  • Senior E&I Engineer performs thorough checking of electrical and instrument design packages.

Qualifications:

SENIOR E&I ENGINEER EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited university/college in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 15-20 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer.
  • Professional Engineering registration by examination is required.   
  • Experience with a consulting engineering firm and completion of industrial projects is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the chemical industry required.
  • Experience upgrading legacy control systems and pneumatic instrumentation to modern DCS systems is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial control and safety systems required. 
  • Experience with Delta V, Foxboro, Honeywell, Yokogawa, and ABB systems a plus.
  • Experience with industrial electrical systems up to 13.8 kV required.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering practices, design details, procedures, and specifications, including the National Electrical Code and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Electrical systems design experience with the following software is preferred: Visual Lighting Design Software, ETAP Power Analysis, SKM, EasyPower
  • Project estimating experience with Aspen Icarus a plus.

     SENIOR E&I ENGINEER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A high degree of capability in engineering management, communications, client relationship, and team management.
  • Ability to react promptly and efficiently to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a variety of sources including team members, subcontractors, and other departments.
  • Ability to develop project scope, estimate engineering tasks, and deliverables, and lead team to bring projects to a successful completion.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to delegate and manage time and resources efficiently.
