Position Summary & Duties:

The Plant Manager position is a direct-hire position working for a mill client in Louisiana.

Plant Manager Position Overview:

The Plant Manager’s principle objective is to optimize the return on investment from the mill over the long term.  To achieve this objective, they are required to implement a long-term budgeting, operating and team building process.

The Plant Manager is responsible for achieving maximum performance of mill operation resources, and to develop and implement programs that promote the effective and efficient conversion of raw material to high quality finished wood products, while attaining high safety performance and employee morale.

Internally, the Plant Manager is in daily contact with all mill staff, employee, service departments, sales and senior leadership. External contacts include the Workers’ Compensation Board, Environment Inspectors, community leaders, key contractors, and business partners.

The Plant Manager is expected to be a leader of employee safety and engagement.  In addition, the Plant Manager is accountable for mill planning processes in developing the 3 - 5 year plans and goals for the Division.

The Plant Manager has the authority to hire, train, develop and terminate hourly employees within guidelines.  The Plant Manager has also the authority to request equipment repair, purchase materials and machinery within guidelines to ensure mill safety and productivity is maintained.

Qualifications:

Plant Manager Experience Requirements:

  • Plant Manager will have a University Degree or Technical Degree in a relevant field 
  • Plant Manager will possess a minimum 10 years paper mill production and/or paper mill maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a paper mill.
  • Plant Manager will have demonstrated experience in leading and managing change
  • Demonstrated experience planning, goal-setting and project management
  • Plant Manager will have strong knowledge of lumber manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Experience with and knowledge of maintenance processes
  • Plant Manager will have proven leadership ability
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Plant Manager will have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships
