Design Engineer (HGA-LC)

Position Summary & Duties:

The Design Engineer II is a direct-hire position working for HGA in the Lake Charles area.  This position can be located in either Lake Charles or The Woodlands, TX.  

The Design Engineer is able to perform relief analysis for systems of moderate to high complexity with minimal supervision.  The Design Engineer will work under the supervision and mentoring of the Lead Design Engineer. The Design Engineer is able to perform various hydraulics calculations (pump calculations, control valves, restriction orifices, etc.) efficiently.  The engineer has in-depth knowledge of standards such as API 520, API 521, API 2000, ASME Sect VIII, ASME Sect I, etc.Design Engineers in this position will have proven experience in mitigating pressure relief deficiencies in a cost-effective manner, and will be able to diagnose and handle more challenging fluid dynamics scenarios, such as 2-phaseflow.    

Design Engineers at this level must be capable of taking on diverse tasks and functioning independently at client locations for on-site services. This Design Engineer position may be based in the Lake Charles, LA area or The Woodlands, TX area.  Periodic travel to plant sites located within 1-4 hours by car is expected.  Engineers are paid for all billable hours worked.

• Perform Relief Valve Sizing Calculations
• Help to mentor and develop junior engineers
• Evaluate existing relief valve piping configurations for conformity torelative codes and regulations
• Simulate processes with process simulation software programs
• Simulate flare systems in Aspen Flare System Analyzer
• Create vapor cloud dispersion models
• Perform well defined calculations and document logic and assumptions
• Complete sizing reports and project update reports
• Clarify data needs to data collectors and verifiers
• Research and assimilate information as needed for process calculations
• Manage multiple tasks
• Interact with the client on a continual basis

 

Qualifications:

Design Engineer Educationand Work Experience
• BS, or M.S, in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience
• Design Engineers must possess 2-5+ years of experience revalidating relief valves and other type relief devices
• Experience reading and understanding P&IDs, PFDs, Equipment Data Sheets, Instrument Data Sheets, Piping ISOs,and Pipe Specs.
• Experience working within a chemical processing facility and/or experience with mitigation efforts related to relief device revalidation.
• Experience with Process Simulation software (Aspen, Hysys, Aspen Flare System Analyzer, Chemcad, ProMax, Pro II,etc.).
• Excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills, including technical writing and MS Office skills arerequired.
