Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineer (HGAS)

Expressions of Interest – Process Safety Mangement (PSM) Engineer Candidates

HGA Staffing is currently gathering resumes of experienced Process Safety Management (PSM) Engineers interested in supporting our clients with their upcoming projects.    

The PSM Engineer generally will be a contract position responsible for leading the site in the enhancement and coordination of PSM and RMP activities, and will be engaged in facilitation, technical “hands-on” work, and continuous improvement activities.



•Recognizes, evaluates, and controls process hazards

•Provides technical expertise and consults on regulatory compliance, hazard management, behavioral modification, site PSM/RMP systems, and auditing programs

•Supports site Central Safety and Health Committee, PSM/RMP, Kaizen and Safety Kickoff events

•Reviews PSM/RMP documentation and interfaces with site operations, functions, and leadership to upgrade and administer essential program elements

•Acts as company liaison to contractors to ensure contractor PSM programs are in compliance with site requirements

•Facilitates and/or coordinates incident and near miss investigations, root cause analysis and follow-up

•Oversees PSM related information systems and databases, including providing regulatory interpretations, developing written site programs and standards, tracking PSM metrics and trend analysis, and facilitating site training

•Collaborates and problem solves with cross functional teams to develop, maintain and improve PSM programs and training based on changes to regulations, company policies and standards, industry practices and key learnings

•Develops and implements an audit schedule for the site covering all elements of PSM and leads/conducts audits as required

•Leads a sustainable culture of excellence by fostering commitment and engaging employees

•Ensures PSM/RMP management system, documentation requirements and operational discipline are robust across the site



•Bachelor degree in Engineering, Chemistry or related technical discipline required, and a minimum of 5 years managing PSM/RMP programs

•Qualified PSM auditor preferred

•Experience leading PHAs

•Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred


•Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP regulations, ANSI standards, RAGAGEP, and other PSM/RMP practices

•Demonstrated ability to develop a 3 to 5 year strategic plan for PSM/RMP as well as tactical execution plan

•Demonstrated and proactive leadership and team engagement skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization

•Demonstrated ability to understand the hazards of site processes

•Experience in leading organizational change and accountability

•Working knowledge of PHA (HAZOP, etc.), LOPA, CA and Incident Analysis tools (Why Tree and FMEA)

•Ability to read and understand technical specifications

•Strong influence and decision making skills

•Excellent communication skills verbal and written

•Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task projects and operational activities
